Ian Robertson directed this fantastic stop motion film for Delta Heavy’s ‘Get By’. I love the fact he has taken everyday household iconic items from the past and creatively come up with a story depicting how these could be used to make a record. It’s not a bad tune either. Anyways, fantastic execution…which you would expect with the time it took. Check this list out:

11,008 photographs were taken for the film.
3,184 photographs made the final cut.
80 Rubik’s Cubes were hired for the shoot.
10 hours to animate 18 frames of the Rubik’s Cube equaliser.
148 Subbuteo men hired for the shoot.
99 Red Balloons by Nena is the vinyl record in the opening sequence.
7 Hungry Hippos were harmed during the making of the film.
160 pick-up sticks are equalised.
1 John Hunt Little Champion Pie Machine was used as the record press.
4 hours to shoot the hungry hippos being minced.
12 photographs per second appear in the film.
6 hours to plan and shoot the camera dolly in on the minced Subbuteo.
32 days were spent animating.

Unless you’re a social hermit, by now you will probably be aware of Kony 2012. If you haven’t seen it yet, then watch it here. The KONY 2012 documentary was created by Invisible Children and aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice. Most people watch the video and will maybe at best donate a few quid to help, however the buck shouldn’t stop there. I am going one step further… To tie in with the planned “Cover the Night” event on April 20th 2012, I have made my own “Make Kony Famous’ posters. I am offering you, the public, a free poster download which you can print and post up anywhere and everywhere to raise awareness. The concept is self explanatory and I have produced both a red, white, blue and blak version, depending on your preference. Post it in your office, school, gym, youth centre, place of worship…anywhere, just “Make Kony Famous”!

The New York Times commissioned this growing logo design for their Autumn 2011 travel issue. Los Angeles-based garden designer Judy Kameon designed and planted the iconic T, keeping in mind shape, texture and a selected color palette.

According to the NYT, Kameon—with help from her husband, the photographer Erik Otsea—created the T using 130 plants. “And in a postscript sure to warm the hearts of environmentalists, no flora were harmed in the making of this artwork. In fact, they’re all bound for a new demonstration garden in Kameon’s office and showroom.”

Brand communications agency Uniform has created a very tangible way to reward its employees every time the team gets a new Twitter follower – by giving them sweets.

Every time the @uniformtweets account gets a new follower, a hacked cuckoo clock releases a gum ball onto a Heath Robinson-esque contraption, which weaves its way to the desk of a hungry employee.

The system – called Sweet Tweet – uses Arduino to monitor any new followers on Twitter. Up to 60 gumballs are stored within a shoot in the clock (one for each “minute” within the clock mechanism). As a new person follows the account, the mechanism is activated, releasing a gumball at the same time as a train whistle noise.

Each new follower then gets sent a link to the film that the agency made, explaining the project (above). The project was born out of the agency’s research platform ULAB.

Pete Thomas, Uniform’s Future Director, told Wired.co.uk: “Gumballs aren’t perfect. If we can get chocolate footballs to work, it would be more popular amongst staff… but they don’t work as well in the shoot.”

He added: “It could get pretty disruptive if we get a load of followers!”
Sweet Tweet is what Uniform describes as a “physical app” — objects that are connected to the internet to perform tasks that enable users to access information or services intuitively without using a standard interface like a mouse, keyboard or touchscreen.

“Sweet Tweet is very much a project for us and our twitter followers,” Thomas explains, “but we think that as mobile touchscreens become ubiquitous, we’re increasingly going to see brands rely on physical apps to create more engaging real-world internet enabled experiences.

“Smartphones are great, but using a touch screen is a fairly bland experience — why should I perceive getting a new follower, or a message from my kids, the same way as I would an email from the bank or a calendar alert? We’re excited by the opportunities that sit beyond the screen.”

If you want to reward the team at Uniform, follow them at @uniformtweets.
